Swedish Massage PDF Print E-mail
Massage

ImageSwedish Massage is a system of therapeutic, manual manipulations of the body's soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia) for the purpose of enhancing circulation to restore or maintain health and overall well being. Increased circulation aids in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to all cells in the body and cleanses the body's tissues of cellular metabolic waste. Swedish massage also relaxes tense or spastic muscles, increases joint range of motion, reduces the recovery time from physical injuries, soothes and sedates the nervous system, increases respiration, reduces swelling from the accumulation of fluid in the extremities, and calms and soothes both emotional and physical stress. Swedish massage also assists in the removal of toxins from the body's  tissues.

In addition to hands on mainpulation, heat and cold may be applied for therapeutic purposes and both active and passive movements and stretches may be employed as necessary means to enhance treatment.

There are five types of strokes in swedish massage that can and should be applied in a variety of ways. These strokes are: effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement, and compression.

An effective therapy which helps in overall well being, Swedish Massage is not only relaxing but invigorating as well.  To learn more about Swedish Massage, book an appointment, or if you are interested in becoming a Massage Maven therapist, feel free to contact us directly.

Deep Tissue Massage PDF Print E-mail
Massage
Deep tissue massage is a corrective bodywork modality focusing on the deeper layers of muscles within our bodies. In a deep tissue massage, the therapist will first warm up the superficial layers of muscle and then apply a strong pressure combined with a variety of techniques to the targeted underlying (deep) muscles. It is very effective at releasing chronic patterns of tension in the body, breaking up adhesions (knots), breaking muscle spasms, elongating shortened muscle fibers, addressing and eliminating scar tissue, increasing range of motion, correcting postural issues and imbalances, and improving the economy of motion. Some people experience discomfort during parts of a deep tissue massage and it is not uncommon to experience some degree of soreness for 24-36 hours after a deep tissue massage. Following this period of "soreness" a notable improvement is almost always experienced. Remember, as a client, you always have control over your session and can at any time ask your therapist to adjust the amount of pressure being applied to your body.

Shiatsu PDF Print E-mail
Massage

Shiatsu in Japanese literally translates to "finger pressure" and it is an ancient form of healing in Eastern history that dates back approximately 4,500 years. Traditional, Five Element Shiatsu is practiced on a mat on the floor and the client is fully clothed (in loose clothing). A session will involve stretching to open up blocked meridians and free Qi, range of motion to optimize the flow of Qi, and palm and thumb work along various meridians.

Five element Shiatsu is the treatment of the human body, mind, and spirit, including the electromagnetic or energetic field which surrounds, infuses, and brings the body to life, by pressure and/or manipulation. It is a focused, fluid, dynamic form that uses the relationship and character of the Five Elements as the structure by which energy can be assessed and treatment devised. It uses the premise that the body and person are one whole. Nothing can be isolated, removed, or treated without affecting the balance of the whole. The Five Element Shiatsu practioner looks for a pattern within the deficiencies and excess conditions of the meridians and relates symptoms to the 12 meridian-organ systems.
